Why Maintain A Good Sitting Posture At Work?

I’m pretty sure that you have never once thought about the importance of maintaining a good posture at work. Who does? When you are working from home or at your office, your posture is the last thing that you care about.

You are already under a lot of stress and have deadlines to meet. Who cares about the posture, right?

Let’s first talk about why bother to maintain a good posture at work.

Why Worry About Your Posture At Work?

We spend 8-12 hours a day sitting on a chair. Over time, our body gets used to our sitting position. It relaxes certain joints, tendons and muscles; and causes tension in others. If we are not careful, this can cause severe back or neck pain in the future.

When we are young, it’s difficult for us to imagine ourselves having aches in our bodies. We don’t have to worry about our health as much. So, we take our bodies for granted. We take our health and ourselves for granted.

But, as we grow old, we realize that we’ve taken too much for granted for too long. And, it’s gotten too late to change. What do we do? We suffer. We cry. We pray.

We miss our youth and wonder what it would take for us to be able to live without migraines, cervical pains and sciatic pain. We doubt if it’s even possible to survive without aches all over our bodies.

Why not think logically? Why not stop ourselves from reaching the point of no return?

Why not take care of our posture while we still can?

Let’s now talk about how to maintain a good posture at work!

How To Maintain A Good Posture At Work?

Sit On A Comfortable Chair

If you are an entrepreneur or are in an executive position at work, you likely spend most of your day sitting on a chair working with the numbers. Consider investing in chairs you are actually comfortable in. Check out some office reception chairs here.

 Set Reminders

Set reminders 4-5 reminders to check your posture every day. You can easily do that using your mobile phone. Please remember that setting reminders is not the same as correcting the posture. There’s no point in setting reminders if you are not going to pay any attention to them.

 Decorate Your Office/Room

Decorate your room/office with posters reminding you of the importance of a good sitting position. You can also research the complications that a bad posture can lead to while making your posters. This will further help you understand how to maintain a good sitting posture.

 Keep Your Back Straight

Let’s not overcomplicate things and start with the basics. To maintain a good sitting posture, start keeping your back straight. Your computer screen should be on your eye level. Let’s keep it at that.

It is going to take you a couple of months to be comfortable with sitting with a straight back. And, that’s okay.

Take as much time as you need.

Ask Your Colleagues To Remind You

Educate your friends and colleagues about the importance of maintaining a good posture. This will help you stay motivated. You can inspire each other to sit with a proper posture.

Peer pressure can also play a role in your wanting to sit in a proper sitting position.

It’s a win-win situation. Why not try?
