What to Know About Relocating to Calgary

If you're looking for a lively and fun city: there's nothing as incredible as Calgary.  This beautiful riverside city has everything from fun nightlife to gorgeous mountain views: anyone who visits quickly starts considering a move.

If you’re heading into town, and aren’t sure about what to expect, here’s what you should know about Calgary before you arrive.

There’s A Fun Balance of Work and Play

Although many cities seem to be all work and no play, Calgary understands that people need to balance time spent at the desk and time spent outdoors.  The town is surrounded by beautiful wildlife and plenty of space to trek and enjoy the trails while getting as far from your computer as possible.

The businesses here are also major players in the tech field and offer competitive salaries to ensure that you can afford the things you enjoy while you're not in the office.

The Stampede Is The Biggest Event of the Year

The Calgary Stampede is a yearly event where everyone from the city can go and watch everything from rodeo shows to live concerts.  Tourists flock to Calgary for this event because it's something unlike anything else in Canada.  There's fun carnival food, incredible rides, and fun, and the energy at the Stampede is unlike anything else.  One-stop here, and you'll start digging for Calgary homes for sale!

Vacations to Banff Are a Must

Banff was the first national park in Canada and wears that badge of honor proudly.  Offering countless views, trails, and ski slopes: there's fun for everyone year-round!  Calgary locals use Banff as their go-to vacation spot when they want to get away and enjoy something refreshing and new.  Although not every part of the park is open year-round, you'll find seasonal fun that will keep you coming back every year!

Sports Are Important and Discussed Often

If you're not into sports, you can still move to Calgary, but you'll have to get used to coworkers and neighbors wanting to bring up recent games with you.  Calgary is very competitive, especially against Edmonton, and has a lot of passion for its teams.  While you're living here, get to know at least the names of the teams and possibly who they're going up against in future games so that you can have fun watching people get excited about the rivalry.

Everything Is More Expensive Here

Calgary is, unfortunately, a very expensive city to live in.  This is the fourth most expensive city in Canada, behind Toronto, Vancouver, and Montreal.  If you're moving here, the chances are that you'll also find your wages are higher.  This can allow some things to balance out, but it's still important to budget carefully and consider cohabitation or roommates if you're moving to the city.  The prices here are higher, but it can work if you plan well.

Calgary is an incredible city where most would be lucky to live.  If you're curious about everything it has to offer, consider visiting sometime soon!
