Pregnancy is a challenge in itself, but as soon as it ends, there is a whole another world waiting for you to explore with its own set of challenges. Don't worry, we are here to help you!
Here's a list of top 8 postpartum tips you should know about as a new mother:

1. t's okay to not be okay
Childbirth is a traumatic process for every woman. Hormonal changes, on top of that, may cause irritation, sadness, mood swings, and much more. More than 70% experience postnatal blues. It's okay. Being cranky or upset doesn't make you a bad mom! If it lasts more than two weeks, please consider medical help! Postpartum depression can be cured with proper help.
2. Delegate work
Whether it's your family or close friends, delegate as much work as you can. With a newborn in your house, you are going to need as much rest as you can. Try to sleep when the baby sleeps. It will help you get ample rest which you most definitely need!
3. Use a lubricant
It's not uncommon for new moms to deal with a dry vagina, especially with breastfeeding. Keep a lubricant and a moisturizer handy.
4. Drink as much water as you can
It's important for breastfeeding mothers to drink ample water to not be dehydrated. In addition, keep your diet healthy and rich with fibres to avoid constipation. If you had a C-section, communicate to your doctor about stomach issues as some of the painkillers they give after the surgery can exacerbate constipation even more!

5. Listen to your body
There are plenty of myths online about when you should start exercising. There's no set rule! Your body will tell you when you're ready. Ofcourse, don't exhaust yourself but going on a light walk should be okay! Ask your doctor to help you with this decision. If you've had a C section, your doctor will normally ask you to wait for 6 to 8 weeks after the birth of your child. That's okay!
6. Seek help about breastfeeding issues
Breastfeeding doesn't feel natural unless you've been doing it for a while. It's okay to struggle with it- this happens with every new mom. You're not alone. Use a gel pad for dry nipples. If they hurt, use a cold compress after feeding your infant. Wearing a great shield will help with sore nipples as they may cause pain when they touch your clothes. Seek assistance and guidance from a lactation specialist whenever you need.
7. Don't rush life to feel normal
Becoming a parent is not an easy job. And I think it's realistic to assume that you're gonna struggle for a while. That's totally normal. Infact, your new life with your child with its perks and challenges will become a new normal. It's just gonna take a while to feel that way.

8. Never forget protection
Maybe not right after the birth of your child, but you're still going to feel the need to fulfill your sexual desires. Be careful with that. Don't be reckless about protection. Breastfeeding just offers a possibility of you not getting pregnant during the lactation period. It doesn't guarantee birth control at all! Be mindful of that or you may make choices you'll regret soon enough.
Lastly, being a mom is challenging in itself. Please don't add to your trouble by beating yourself up for nothing. It's okay to struggle and if you don't believe it right now, it does get better. There is nothing wrong with you. It's just going to take a while for you to adjust to your new life and deal with postpartum jitters.
